Great Ideas Center For Court Innovation The Center for Court Innovation is a unique public-private partnership that works to improve public confidence in justice. The Center is the only one of its kind in the country: a dedicated resource that works within the New York State Unified Court System to promote ongoing institutional change. The Center's innovations are not designed to remain the exclusive property of New York. The Center uses its demonstration projects as laboratories, testing new ideas and aggressively spreading the word about what works and what doesn't. In the process, the Center encourages courts across the country to re-think business as usual and to develop new approaches to the delivery of justice. www.courtinnovation.org/ www.communitycourts.org/ Community Justice Exchange Communityjustice.org, operated by the Community Justice Exchange and the Center for Court Innovation, provides information for planners and citizens about community justice programs around the country. The Exchange's web site includes profiles of community justice projects, interviews with those involved in the community justice movement, practical advice on developing and maintaining a project, news articles and national databases that can help track down programs and publications. www.communityjustice.org/ Teen Empowerment The mission of the Center for Teen Empowerment is to realize the potential of inner-city youth to build healthier and safer communities and schools. Teen Empowerment hires and trains urban youth, including at risk youth, to be community organizers. Our programs are based on the belief that urban youth represent a valuable, untapped resource and can significantly contribute to the rejuvenation of neighborhoods and local institutions. www.TeenEmpowerment.org/AboutUs.html Gang Resistance Education And Training The Boston Police Departments G.R.E.A.T. Program is part of a very successful strategy that has dramatically reduced youth crime in their community. In 1991 police officers from the Phoenix Police Department and from Mesa, Glendale, and Tempe, Arizona, and special agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms developed Gang Resistance Education And Training (G.R.E.A.T.) to reduce adolescent involvement in criminal behavior and gangs. G.R.E.A.T. is a national, school-based gang prevention program in which uniformed law enforcement officers teach a 9-week curriculum to middle school students. As of June 1997, more than 2,400 officers from 47 states and District of Columbia had completed G.R.E.A.T. training. www.atf.treas.gov/great/ National Campaign Against Youth Violence A new effort to address the epidemic rates of youth violence. The PIC is Boston's Regional Employment Board, the governance and policy-making body for Boston's workforce development system. Working with Boston's educational institutions, labor, community-based organizations, prominent businesses and small neighborhood establishments alike, our mission is 'to connect the youth and adults of Boston with careers in the mainstream economy.' Focusing on a continuum of education and work force development issues in Boston, the PIC not only provides system-wide strategies, but also ensures quality in programs such as welfare-to-work, career centers, and school-to-career. www.bostonpic.org/ |
